MINI Cooper is in the record books for many things. From winning countless races and rallies to having amazing safety records, MINI is looking to have it all. Now that includes having a listing in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In Chongqing, China, the China Drift Championship was being held in which competitors wow onlookers with their amazing car drifting skills. A speedy acceleration, a yank on the brake at the right time with a swift turn, and the car drifts just as they want it to. Sliding around tight corners – and, in this case, into parallel parking spaces.

The Drift

On November 14, 2014, Han Yue attempted to earn an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for the tightest parallel park. With the help of Redbull and a MINI Cooper 3-Door Hatchback, he did a quick test run to make sure everything was just where he wanted it. The test run itself was an impressive look at just what some of these skilled drivers can do when it comes to drifting. Next, it was time for the official parallel park. After measurements were taken, cameras set into place, and the crowd waited in excitement, Han Yue performed his parallel parking feat – and created a brand new MINI Cooper world record. The tightest parallel park is now set at a mere 8 cm (3.15 inches) and is truly a wow-inducing moment.

MINI Cooper is in the Record Books! …Again!

With the combination of Han Yue’s skills and the compact, powerful design of the MINI Cooper, it’s no wonder that together they made drifting and world history by creating a MINI world record. The space between the cars in front and behind Han Yue’s MINI 3-Door Hatch is almost indiscernible. The crowd cheered and Han Yue was lifted onto the shoulders of his crew in celebration.
