Plenty of Cargo Space in the MINI Countryman

The MINI Countryman – now available at Braman MINI – is the first MINI with four doors, a large tailgate, five seats, optional all-wheel drive and up to 42.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded flat – plenty enough for a weekend trip.  The Countryman, at 42.2 cubic feet, has more cargo space than either the Audi A4 (34 cu. ft.) and Nissan Juke (35.9 cu. ft.).  In addition, the rear seats can be shifted longitudinally by up to five inches, either together or in a 40 : 60 split. It is also possible to adjust the tilt of the seats, and the rear backrests can be folded down in a 40 : 20 : 40 split.

Convenience Features in the MINI Countryman

MINI Countryman rear viewThe MINI Countryman also comes standard with roof rails, rear bike rack mountings, in addition, for 2014, Mini has done away with the center storage rail that divided the rear seat in previous models.  The Countryman is a truly realistic four-passenger car, with a pair of bucket seats in back. It has four traditional side doors, so it’s easier to get in or to load kids inside.  There’s also enough height and length to haul two mountain bikes with their front wheels removed and there is a substantial well under the load floor, which aligns with the hatch opening. There are tie-down points in back and several optional storage accessories, including a basic net. The load height isn’t far off the ground, yet the hatch still opens high enough to provide easy access.

Performance and Fuel Economy in the MINI Countryman

The 2014 Mini Cooper Countryman has a 1.6-liter, four-cylinder engine that is rated at 121 horsepower. The S and John Cooper Works models have turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engines that produce 181 and 208 horsepower, respectively. A six-speed manual transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional. Equipped with an automatic transmission, the base Countryman gets an EPA-estimated 25/30 mpg city/highway, which is excellent for a MINI Countryman side viewcompact crossover.  With the manual transmission, the Countryman gets one of the highest fuel economy ratings in the class at 28/35 mpg.  All models come standard with a Sport Button which allows more direct steering and accelerator response.
